  1. Definition of Determinant: The determinant of a square matrix A is denoted as |A| or det(A).

  2. Order of a Determinant: The order of a determinant is the number of rows (or columns) it has. For an n x n matrix, the determinant is of order n.

  3. Properties of Determinants:

    • If two rows (or columns) of a determinant are interchanged, the sign of the determinant changes.
    • If any row (or column) of a determinant is multiplied by a scalar ‘k’, the determinant is multiplied by ‘k’.
    • If two rows (or columns) of a determinant are proportional, the determinant is zero.
    • If all elements of a row (or column) are zero, the determinant is zero.
